I coach people of all ages and abilities from age 3 to 77. Here’s what some of them think:

I like Matt because he is fun and is a good teacher.
Sam aged 8

Matt is the best tennis coach my daughter has had; she has had lessons with him for several years. Matt is always enthusiastic and shows real interest in her progress. He is incredibly encouraging and at the same time he is constantly getting her and her friend to work on and improve their technique. Matt communicates very easily what he wants the pair of them to do and my daughter can now see her skills developing every lesson. He really motivates her to want to do well and to believe in herself. Matt’s a great coach and a great person.

Matt is a fantastic Tennis Coach. He is fun. He makes things easy and he makes things cool. I wish all of my teachers were like him.
Nicholas Gill, age 8

Matt Ward’s tennis lessons for youngsters are a superb way of introducing the fundamentals of sport -ability, balance and co ordination, to youngsters. The sessions are well structured building on agility and balance in the warm up through to co ordination in a recognised game of Tennis. Through small skill activities, children build up their knowledge and understanding of he game in a secure, unthreatening environment. Competition is developed through long-term participation.
Matt has an excellent manner with the children, who above all, enjoy learning physical and social skills with him.

You have inspired them! A great coach!

My son Rory is profoundly deaf, with a very severe language disorder. He was uncoordinated and really had no idea how to play tennis. After just over a year of one to one lessons the improvements we have seen in Rory are not just his tennis, which is certainly better than mine now. I feel his lessons with Matt have improved his whole body/mind. He loves Matt and thoroughly enjoys his lessons with Matt. Obviously we are not the ‘normal’ client and I do now look on these lessons as therapy! However, if he can teach Rory to play tennis he could make a Andy Murray of your child!

With Matt’s help, my tennis has improved to a level I never would have thought myself capable of, and perhaps more importantly, so has my love of the game.
Matt seems to have a never-ending list of new ways to approach the problem or tips to find a solution that works for you.
Matt began coaching me a couple of years ago, when I had not played tennis since P.E. lessons at school 15 years previously! Not surprisingly, I was quite anxious beforehand, but Matt put me at ease straightaway with his relaxed and fun attitude towards learning tennis. I have both group and individual lessons with Matt, and he always makes the lessons interesting, fun and suitable for all standards of players within the group. It is also interesting to see how he adapts his teaching styles to different people and the different ways in which they learn. If someone is struggling to grasp a new technique, Matt seems to have a never-ending list of new ways to approach the problem or tips to find a solution that works for you.
With Matt’s help, my tennis has improved to a level I never would have thought myself capable of, and perhaps more importantly, so has my love of the game. I always look forward to my next lesson, and find tennis a great stress-reliever, whatever is going on elsewhere.
Everybody I know who is coached by Matt speaks very highly of him, and I would not hesitate in recommending him as the best person to teach you tennis, whatever your level of ability.

Charlie said today was the best tennis lesson she had ever had! Thank you.

Matt makes learning tennis fun and teaches sports discipline in a way that is appealing to kids. He is fair with all the children and praises consistently. Our son has improved greatly in the 3 years that Matt has taught him. We would highly recommend Matt as a tennis coach.

I like going to tennis because it is fun and everyone learn lots. Matt makes the lessons lots of fun. :) The lessons have lots of games so people can learn the fun way how to play tennis. I look forward to tennis every week.
Mark Burgess, age 10

Our 10 year son has attended tennis coaching sessions with Matt on a regular basis over the past few years. He has thoroughly enjoyed the sessions as they have fun whilst also learning the various skills of the game, so much so, that we have often been dragged out of the house for some family winter tennis. We can highly recommend Matt to anyone wanting to start learning or improve on their game.

I’ve been having tennis lessons with Matt for two years and I would be happy to recommend him as a tennis coach. Matt’s lessons are fun, energetic and geared towards me as an individual. Tennis lessons are one of the highlights of my week!

My two daughters (4 and 5 years old) enjoyed attending their private lesson with Matt every week for 6-9 months. Matt kept the 45min classes relevant and fun with lots of games to practise on strokes and ball skills; and got them to a stage where they could hit over the net and play a short rally.
Shirley Granite

It was fun to take tennis lessons from Matt. It was great exercise and very flexible to my technical level and needs. Matt also developed 6 weekly training programme for me through which I learned to win my matches. I went up in our club box league each term. It was great fun and it often made my day.

I have enjoyed both group and individual tennis lessons with Matt for over two years. His lessons are always fun, varied and enjoyable. He really focuses on the individual and what they need and devises appropriate sessions, not just following a standard programme. He is extremely patient and enables everyone, whatever their standard, to love playing tennis.

If you’re a beginner or an accomplished player, looking for either one2one or group lessons, then don’t have any hesitation in joining Matt’s coaching sessions. His teaching skills, passion for tennis and his easy going manner will ensure you not only acquire and improve tennis techniques, you’ll have fun and meet new friends in the process. Its no wonder Matt’s sessions are popular!

Ben started tennis coaching with Matt in September 2009. He came back from his first session very excited and couldn’t wait to go again the following week. He always looks forward to going every week and thinks the lessons are fun but at the same time enjoys learning new skills.
We have found Matt very welcoming and friendly. He always has time to speak to you and is really good with the children. We are both very impressed with how much Ben has learnt so far and look forward to watching some matches!!

Matt has taught my son and daughter for 2 years. My daughter enjoys Matts fun, engaging style of teaching, whilst my son loves the friendly competition Matt ensures each lesson provides. Thanks to Matt, both my children love tennis.
I was persuaded to have some lessons myself, learning a new sport in my forties could have been embarrassing, especially considering my complete lack of ability, Matt managed to make the lessons, my friends and I took, to be extremely good fun. I hope that I will now be able to play tennis for many years to come.

Matt Ward has been coaching us in tennis as a family and individually for almost 3 years.
He has a wonderful way of explaining all the intricacies of each stroke and at the same time manages to encourage and instil enthusiasm.
My Husband, Simon had previously only played squash (quite successfully) but Matt’s gentle way has now got Simon hooked on tennis and experimenting with different strokes – he’s now a much better player than me (darn it)!
My son, Charles is now a 7 year old live-wire with very fast footwork – an attribute which Matt spotted very early on and encouraged Charles to attend the Goole Tennis Centre, where he is continuing to excel. Charles still has occasional sessions with Matt because he enjoys his teaching style and likes him very much – Matt has a great affinity with the youngsters.
I have enjoyed individual lessons with Matt, sometimes with Simon to practise doubles routines but mostly with a group of other ’40 something’ ladies. We have learned a new sport, become fitter, lost some weight and forged new friendships – all because Matt allowed us to chat, laugh (with and at each other) and compete in a very friendly way during our lessons.
If you want a tennis coach who is experienced, talented, personable, competitive and above all a really nice person, then Matt is the best. We’ve tried others, but always go back to Matt.

Matt is a great person to work with. He’s got tons of positive energy, a brilliant sense of humour and has a real ability to see things differently and creatively. He brought these strengths to his work at Nestle, and has now used them to follow his more recent path into tennis coaching. This is a challenge which is bound to suit his friendly, cheerful approach, and which will draw on his highly motivated attitude and determination to succeed.
Steve Jack

Matt is a highly creative and dynamic individual who made a valuable contribution to our Trainers’ Library Conference in 2009. He delivered coaching workshops, taking his experience as a professional tennis coach and applying it to business in an interactive, fun and thought provoking way.
