World Records

4 World Record attempts!   24th March 2012.    We raised £1,035 for Sport Relief!

Watch a quick video of the day here:

I_thought if would be really fun to try and set some World Records for tennis skills, and  secured official approval from Guinness World RecordsTM to attempt to break existing records and set new ones at Pocklington on March 24th, 2012.

Everyone was welcome! Members of Pocklington Tennis Club, children from local schools and the public were all invited to take part in this event, which also involved a Pro-Exhibition match.

What happened?

We think Douglas Turner has set a new record for the most tennis balls carried across a court in one minute, with an incredible 61!  We are sending our evidence off to GWR for their verdict.

Details of  other World Records attempted:

  • Most balls caught in 1 minute being fired from 6m away at 100km/h (43 is the existing record) – our closest was 26 by Mark Smith (but we think the speed was closer to 40km/h :)
  • Most balls caught in 1 minute blindfolded *again being fired at 100km/h (11 is the existing record) – I was the only one to attempt this, and despite getting my hands on about 20 balls, I only managed to catch 0 (zero!!).  But everyone seemed to enjoy it, based on the laughter I could hear!
  • Most tennis freestyle tricks completed in 1 minute (new) – I managed 26, but Alex Funnell from the freestyle team smashed that with 36!  Well done Alex (pic above)

ALL TO RAISE MONEY FOR SPORT RELIEF AND WE RAISED AN INCREDIBLE £1,035! THANK YOU EVERYONE
